Commission on Disabilities · Meeting of May 12, 2026

HUDSON — The Commission on Disabilities heard an ADA exemption request from bar owner Nilton Freitas and discussed alternatives to the sought waiver. Freitas seeks exemption from providing accessible entrance and bathroom for Amaia Martini Bar at 176 Main Street, citing historic property status. External consultant Mark Dempsey emailed that historic status alone does not qualify; compliance must be technologically unfeasible or excessively costly.

Commission member Mark J. Terra-Salomao volunteered to sketch an accessible bathroom layout, and Freitas scheduled a meeting with Dempsey to discuss options. The Commission also learned of a non-compliant ramp at a Chase Bank/Dunkin's plaza and heard MOD grant updates for a Transition Plan consultant.
