Holden Select Board Authorizes Non-Resident Pool Passes, Sets $400 Family Rate

HUDSON — June 16, 2026 — Holden Select Board approves non-resident pool passes with higher price tags than proposed. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize two new non-resident seasonal pool passes — a family pass at $400 and a single pass at $200, each capped at 20 per season — along with a new resident grandparent punch-card at $136 for 10 visits to the Dawson Recreation Center pool. Recreation Director Ali Connell presented data showing resident pool-pass revenue has dropped from $135,710 in fiscal year 2024 to roughly $77,500 so far in fiscal year 2026, with total memberships falling from 1,003 to 651 over the same period. Select Board member Richard Ranzoni argued the department's proposed rates of $280 and $100 were too low given that non-residents pay no local taxes toward the pool's capital costs, and successfully moved higher figures. Ranzoni also blocked a proposal for unescorted non-resident day passes, saying past experience showed unsponsored visitors "where we went like this on our experience at the pool." Town Manager Thomas Sheridan separately announced the pool rehabilitation contract was signed June 16 — the facility is currently losing roughly 24,000 gallons of water per day to a leak — and that former Council on Aging Chairman Rick Mansfield died unexpectedly last week.
